Over 36,000 IDPs resettled in Vavuniya

More than 36,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Vavuniya District have been resettled.
Vavuniya District GA P S M Charles said that almost 36,270 persons from 10,126 families in the Vavuniya District have been resettled and resettled families are now engaged in agriculture and other activities without fear of land-mines.
She also said that the process of land-mine removal in the Vavuniya District is nearing completion.
Almost 15,303 people from 4,212 families in the Vavuniya Divisional Secretariat, 4,516 people from 1,370 families in the Vavuniya South Divisional Secretariat, 4,406 people from 1,282 families in the Settikulam Divisional Secretariat and 12,045 people from 3,363 families in the Vavuniya North Divisional Secretariat have been resettled, she said.
Charles assured that the government will provide every possible assistance to build permanent houses for those who had lost their houses.
The government has already initiated speedy development programmes under the Uthuru Wasanthaya programme which is benefitting a large number of people.
