LTTE in Europe a threat to Sri Lanka

LTTE and pro LTTE elements in Europe are a potential threat to Sri Lanka and other countries, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement today.
In the statement on the death of LTTE activist Nadarajah Mathithiran alias Parithi alias Reegan in Paris last week, the Ministry of Defence said that a rift between Parathi and other LTTE supporters led to his murder.
“Reports indicate that the main reason was the dispute over the Hero’s day celebrations in Paris where both the Rudrakumaran faction and the Nediyawan faction opposed the organization of a common event. It is also reported that all attempts made by GTF which work closely with TGTE (Rudrakumar faction) to get Nediyawan faction to hold a common event with TGTE to commemorate the Hero’s day programme in Paris failed. This is a clear example of how LTTE/pro LTTE elements in Europe continue to operate on European soil thus becoming a potential threat not only to Sri Lanka but also to the world at large,” the statement said.
Parithi joined the LTTE in 1980. After basic military training he served under Mannar LTTE leader Victor and subsequently was appointed as a deputy leader for Jaffna.
He moved to India for treatment after being wounded in an IPKF attack in the 1989/1990 period. After treatment he was sent to France by the LTTE leadership. (Colombo Gazette)
