Community service programmes of the Security Forces

As a part of its community welfare initiatives, English seminars were held recently for students of Kallaru Tamil Madya Maha Vidyalaya by the Security Forces Headquarters Killinochchi. The seminar was organized to help the children in classes from Grade 3 to 9. The military's initiative will no doubt be a great boon for these underprivileged children to improve and develop their English language communicative skills. Better communications will open up new avenues of gaining higher education in national and international institutes.

A total of 122 students took part in all the interactive session enthusiastically. The school staff and the parents of the children expressed their appreciation to the military authorities for helping their children to learn.

Meanwhile Security Forces Headquarters -Killinochchi also organized a beauty culture workshop for Tamil women. This programme was conducted a measure to empower these women to involve in self employment ventures and enjoy greater economic freedom. The workshop was held at 571 Brigade Headquarters auditorium in Kilinochchi.

A book donation programme was conducted by the Security Forces Headquarters- Jaffna (SFHQ-J) at Thalaiadi RCTMS Vidyalaya. The students of Palai Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Sompattu Ganesha Vidyalaya, Masar GTMS Vidyalaya, Champianpattu GTM Vidyalaya, Mamunai GTM Vidyalaya, Thalaiadi RTCMS Vidyalaya and Marudankerni MTM Vidyalaya received books from the security forces. Approximately Rs 72,500.00 worth of books were distributed among the students. These books were donated with a view to encourage the reading habit among the school children.

The National Library and the Library Services Board together with the SFHQ-J launched the event.

In order to assist the farming community a Peanut cultivation awareness programme was conducted at Echchalanpattu Panthaha Government School in Trincomalee. The farmers were educated on proper farming techniques and cultivation methods. Peanut seeds were also distributed among the farmers. The programme was held in collaboration with Snack Food Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.

Under the government's expedited northern development programme, the Army is extensively involved in a number of infrastructure development projects including road reconstruction, infrastructure development and housing. In par with the infrastructure development, the efforts taken by the security forces to uplift the education and agriculture sectors of the region have come under immense praise by the local communities. The security forces will forge ahead with these community based welfare initiatives for the benefit of the people of the north and east.
