Army provides shelter

House donated to Tamil family

Security forces in Jaffna gifted a newly constructed house to a homeless Tamil family in Jaffna on 20th November 2012. Gurusami Sunthara Ravin of Alaveddy Central received the keys of the new house from the Commander SF-J at a special ceremony held at Alaveddy.

As a part of their social service commitment the Security forces officials took measures to provide relief to Gurusami who was found to be living with his family under deplorable conditions. The Army utilized its men and materials in the construction of the house. A number of philanthropists also extended their support towards this worthy cause. The children of the family were also gifted with school stationery and books.

This innocent Tamil family had gone through much hardship during the past and until the security forces took the initiative to lend assistance nobody has done anything for their welfare. The army personnel completed work on the house within a short period of time. So far the army has constructed and distributed 1780 houses up to date.

During the ceremony security forces also distributed wheelchairs, worth of Rs. 30000.00 each to two disabled women. Accordingly Mrs. Nagamani Vijayaluxmy of Mallakam Central and Ms Sinnathurai Kamalathevi of Mallakam North received the wheel chairs from the security forces.

These social service initiatives of the security forces are carried out to add value to the lives of the northern within the reconciliation and reintegration frame work. The continuous productive efforts made by the security forces personnel to uplift the welfare of the Tamil people within the last three years are praiseworthy. The recent recruitment of Tamil girls to the army is a clear indication of the high regard the northern community has on the peace building efforts of the government.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe. Senior security forces officials, divisional secretary, assistant director (planning) and administrative officer of Thelippalai divisional secretariat, principal, teachers and students of Pandithirippu Jasintha Vidyalayam were present at the occassion.
