LTTE Rump Power Struggle claims another victim
The killing of Parithy
Parithy as a young LTTE cadre |
Tamil websites reported the killing of Parithy yesterday (08th
November 20112) in Paris, France. Informed sources say that the killing is
result of internal rift among remnant LTTE factions. Nadarajah Matheenthiran
alias Parithy a.k.a Regan was a high ranking remnant tiger leader of LTTE's
Nediyavan faction. He had headed the LTTE in France for many years. He had to
maintain a low profile after he was arrested by French authorities and sentenced
to a term of imprisonment.
The existing power struggle between remnant LTTE groups has led
to inter gang rivalry on a large scale which had become an issue of concern for
many European nations. On October 30th last year Parithy was attacked as he was
coming out of the Tamil Coordinating Committee (TCC) office in Paris with two of
his aides. A group of six, three of them wearing balaclavas attacked him with
weapons. They had used "katana" a type of Japanese Samurai sword in the attack.
Parithy had later identified two of them as 'former' members of the LTTE in
Paris.
With the defeat of the LTTE in Sri Lanka in May 2009 a power
struggle has commenced between the remnant LTTE groups operating abroad.
The killing of Parity effectively illustrates the nature and
scope of the power struggle going on within the LTTE remnant groups. There are
two broad factions swearing allegiance to two senior tiger operatives. One is
Perinbananaygam Sivaparan alias 'Nediyavan' based in Norway and Parithy was one
of his main henchmen.
Since the death of Prabhakaran an internal rift occurred between
LTTE Europe leader Nediyawan and V. Rudrakumaran an LTTE leader based in USA.
This killing comes at a time when the remnant apparatus is preparing for its
annual so-called 'Heroes Day' celebrations which is a major source of income for
them. The various remnant factions led by Rudrakumar, Rev. Emmanuel and
Nediyavan are at loggerheads over holding of the event. This is not something
new. The inter gang rivalry has a long history and Parithy is another victim of
the fight for the LTTE's vast ill gotten 'inheritance'. These gangs keep the
separatist 'light' burning for their own survival. Peace in Sri Lanka means the
end of the day for them.
Even Tamil web sites have reported that the killing was carried
out by another rival Tamil gang. A Tamil man has witnessed this shooting which
had happened at a bus stop. Like before the anti peace lobby and its spin
doctors are busy concocting allegations against the government of Sri Lanka and
trying divert the attention elsewhere by accusing Sri Lanka's involvement in the
crime. Their futile effort in trying to wash their hands off all the crime they
commit by blaming the government has proven counter productive. The recognition
that these remnant groups once commanded within the Tamil community is
increasingly waning. It is a matter of time before the truth is revealed and the
true culprits are brought to book. As always we will you keep you informed.
