Expatriate Sri Lanka donates books to Sevanapitiya M V in Welikanda

A Sri Lankan expatriate in USA in collaborating with Sri Lanka Army Commando Regiment, donated library books worth Rs100,000 for the use of the students of Sevanapitiya Maha Vidyalaya in Welikanda in the Eastern province.

The donation was made by Mr Prasantha Wijedasa in USA in order to support the educational upliftment of the children of Sevanapitiya Maha Vidyalaya. This donation of books will not only help to improve the reading skills of the students but also build up their knowledge in a wide range of subjects.

The donation comprised of story books, novels, Sinhala literature books, Ordinary Level and Advanced Level study materials and support readings. The donation was handed over to the Principle of the Sevanapitiya Maha Vidyalaya by the Sri Lanka Army Commando Regiment in a simple function held at the school recently.

The staff and children of the school expressed gratitude to Mr Wijedasa for his generous contribution to upgrade the school library. They also thanked the Army for facilitating such assistance towards the development of the school.

Religious dignitaries, the school staff, military officials, large number of parents and students were present at the occasion.

With the end of conflict more and more expat Sri Lankans have come forward to assist their brethren in Sri Lanka. A large number of them have visited the island especially the north and east. Many have put up new business ventures bringing in much needed direct foreign investments to the Island. The government is committed in developing the former theatre of conflict and the security forces are involved in a number of infrastructure development projects in the north and east.
