Weapons uncovered in Mullaittivu
Sri Lanka Army troops have recovered artillery items including
one 130 mm artillery gun barrel, four 152 mm artillery gun barrels, four 152 mm
artillery gun trails, two 152 mm artillery gun carriages and two 120 HP out
board motors from Wellamullivaikkal yesterday (31 October 2012).
These recoveries are made from the areas where the LTTE kept
civilians as hostage creating a human shield during the final stages of the war.
During the battle Tiger terrorists consistently attacked army positions with
artilleries mounting in the areas where the civilians were forcefully kept.
Facing imminent defeat the terrorists disregarded all international norms and
massacred the lives of the innocent Tamil civilians.
The world watched in horrified silence when the Tamil tigers
shot men, women and terrified children who tried to flee from the human shield.
Arial footages showed LTTE gunmen mercilessly shooting at the hordes of people
who tried to escape to government held territory. The terrorists had also
heavily mined the surrounding areas. Military demining units recovered a huge
amount of anti personnel mines during demining operations soon after the end of
the humanitarian operations.
The attempt made by the Sri Lankan government was praiseworthy
to rescue civilian hostage with minimum causality from cruel LTTE hands. The
operation will go down in history as the biggest humanitarian operation to
rescue hostages in the world. Sri Lanka has set an example in defeating
terrorism and post war recovery for the world to follow. What the West should
realise is that Sri Lanka was fighting the most ruthless terrorist organization
in the world.
