Kepappilavu Housing Project begins tomorrow


The construction of permanent housing units and infrastructure facilities for the resettled families at Kepappilvu in Mullaithivu District will commence tomorrow (02 November 2012). The Ministry of Resettlement has taken measures to work of the proposed project under the patronage of the Minister.

The temporary houses will be replaced with new permanent houses complete with all amenities. A sum of Rs. 63.3 million has been allocated for this programme. In addition, water supply and sanitary facilities and internal road network will also be developed.

To ensure the sustainable livelihood and the well being of the resettled citizens, the Ministry of Resettlement with the assistance of security forces and the District Secretariat Mullaithivu will launch this project

Under expedited resettlement programme, the government has prioritized the providing of permanent dwellings and livelihood support for the resettled people. The Tri forces are involved in a number of infrastructure development projects in the north and east. With most of the rehabilitation beneficiaries reintegrated back to their societies the government has initiated a number of welfare measures to ensure their livelihood and sustenance. Already hundreds of houses have been constructed and handed over to the northern masses.

With a view of engaging the resettled in self employment ventures the government has provided, sewing machines, fishing gear, farming equipment, soft loans, assistance for animal husbandry and many other facilities. In addition training courses on beauty culture, sewing, poultry farming, food processing were also facilitated.
