1000 villages earmarked to set up industrial villages
The government while engaged in massive infrastructure development program in North and East, made its concern on economic development of those areas by setting up industrial villages suiting their localities. According, 1000 villages have already been ear-marked to establish industrial villages in the North.
A coir factory set up by the Industrial Development Board at cost of Rs 5 million in Allare Village, Chavakachcheri was declared open recently by Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Minister Douglas Devananda recently.
Setting up industrial villages under the Mahinda Chinthana Rekiya Bihidora program, is not only for economic sustainability in those areas but to grab the northern people for country's production, Minister Devanada said speaking at the opening ceremony.
Further he said a vehicle to transport coir related products, a store house and a sales outlet too, would soon be granted.
The 35 employees recruited to the factory will be trained and monitoring of the factory will be done by the Industrial Development Board in order to achieve effective production in the factory.
A new leather factory, as the 217th industrial village, is also to be set up in Vadamarachchi at cost of 10 Million rupees.
