Jobs for ex-LTTE cadres
7 Sep 2010 - 08:10
For the first time ever, the government is to have 'Job - Fair' for the youth of the Northern Region especially ex-LTTE combatants who are being integrated back into society following their rehabilitation, said Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Brig Sudantha Ranasinghe yesterday.
"This would be something similar to the Job-Fair held before graduation in the USA offering employment to youth following their graduation".
The Brigadier urged more business enterprises to participate in this humanitarian exercise which also provided them with an excellent opportunity to fulfil their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
They would be granting a new lease of life to the youth by offering employment to the young boys and girls before they were reintegrated into society following successful rehabilitation. 'Job - Fair' is to be held in Vavuniya on September 25, 26th and 27th.
"Many leading garment manufacturers including Tri-Star Apparel, Brandix Garments Ltd, MAS Holdings Ltd, Hidramani Industries have shown their willingness to participate and we have invited as many as possible to join, he said.
The business enterprises should bring along leaflets or brochures outlining in detail the categories of employment available, basic salaries, allowances and benefits that would be provided by a garment factory including welfare facilities as some free or subsidised breakfast, lunch or dinner, hostel, EPF, ETF facilities, annual leave, payments for OT etc . President Mahinda Rajapaksa as well as Secretary Defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa have given clear instructions that each and every ex-LTTE combatant should be physically, mentally and spiritually rehabilitated before he or she is reintegrated into civil society as peaceful and useful citizens who could work towards the development of the country.
"Our instructors have gone to a great length to groom them, teach them and provide training in yoga, meditation, vipassana bhavana and vocational training so that they could restart their lives without difficulty."
So far, following successful rehabilitation 3,980 ex-LTTE combatants have been reintegrated and on September 4, 507 including 245 males and 114 females were rehabilitated.
"We had provided them with all facilities to sit for the A-level examination", Brigadier Ranasinghe said .
In response to the appeals made by kith and kin to the Minister of Rehabilitation Dew Gunasekera, during the Mobile Service Clinics that were held some time ago in the Northern Districts of Jaffna, Mullaitivu and Mannar, 37 males and 9 females were released last week.
