During His Third Day Stay, Indian Army Chief Tours Wanni, A’pura & Trincomalee

The visiting Chief of Army Staff, Indian Army General Vijay Kumar Singh PVSM AVSM YSM ADC and his delegation during the third day of their stay in Sri Lanka, flew to Vavuniya, Anuradhapura and Trincomalee Tuesday (7).
In Vavuniya, Major General G D H K Gunaratne, Commander, Security Forces Wanni warmly received the visiting Indian Army Chief and his delegation on arrival at the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) where General Vijay Kumar Singh was conducted to inspect the Guard Turn Out, presented by SFHQ - W soldiers at the entrance to the headquarters premises. The visiting Army Chief at the headquarters auditorium received an update on the general situation and ongoing development projects in Wanni, with special focus on ongoing resettlement projects and rehabilitation of former LTTE cadres.
To signify their visit to the military establishment, Commander, Security Forces Wanni at the conclusion of the Wanni reception presented symbolic mementos to General Singh and other accompanying Indian delegates.
General Vijay Singh afterwards at Omanthai saw for himself how Indian Demining Teams under the NGO Horizon were engaged in demining work in their Omanthai site. General Singh spoke to several deminers at work and shared a couple of views with them. Sri Lanka’s representative for the organization briefed the visitors on the progress of their work.
General Singh’s wife, Mrs Bharti Singh, in order to attend a separate programme at Anuradhapura, on the sidelines of the main programme meanwhile joined Mrs W.C.D.M Gunaratne, the wife of Major General G D H K Gunaratne, Commander Security Forces Wanni after Mrs Gunaratne, Colonel W A Ariyaratne, Area Commander for Anuradhapura, and his wife, Mrs T M R Muthukumari welcomed Mrs Singh on arrival at Anuradhapura.
Afterwards Mrs Singh and her group visited the Museum, Thuparamaya, Abhayagiriya, Moonstone, Samadhi Statue and Twin Ponds in the sacred Maha Mevuna Uyana at Anuradhapura.
In the meantime, after completion of his stopover at Vavuniya, General Singh arrived at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya, Anuradhapura to join with his spouse. At Anuradhapura, General Singh paid obeisance and made offerings to the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya where he had a brief interaction with the chief incumbent for Atamasthanaya, in the company of the Commander, Security Forces Wanni and the Area Commander for Anuradhapura.
As the last leg of the day’s agenda, General Singh and his delegation winged to Trincomalee where they were scheduled to be received by Major General S W L Daulagala, Commander, Security Forces East. General Singh was scheduled to meet Governor for Eastern Province and visit the Trincomalee oil farm, monkey bridge, naval dockyard, naval museum and the historic Koneshvaram Hindu Kovil.
Mrs Singh and ladies accompanying her took time off to enjoy the scenic beauty in Clappenburg, Orr’s Hill while General Singh was attending to other official formalities.
