Sri Lankan nation celebrate the second anniversary of the fully elimination of one of the most ruthless terrorist outfits in the world, the LTTE, at a solemn ceremony at the Galle Face Green in Colombo under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa today( May 27).Over 24,000 members of the Security Forces who made the supreme sacrifice for the protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation would be remembered by observing two minutes silence at the commencement of the state ceremony.President Mahinda Rajapaksa issuing a special message to mark the even said it is the greatest responsibility of every one to protect the hard-won freedom.Full text of the message of President Mahinda Rajapaksa"It is with very much pleasure that I send this message of greetings on Ranaviru Day - set apart to commemorate the War Heroes who made the supreme sacrifice for the unity of our motherland," President Mahinda Rajapaksa said."The cherished dream of peace that we as a nation yearned for decades has now come true."The honour for this should solely be with our armed forces.Let us bow our heads in homage to those thousands who sacrificed life and limb for the freedom we enjoy today."It is our greatest responsibility to protect our hard won freedom. Ensuring that we leave no room for terrorism or separatism to raise their ugly heads again in this country is the greatest tribute we can pay to our heroes of war. "The entire nation should come forward and assist the families of those brave soldiers who died or were maimed in this great struggle for peace and unity. This is our duty and responsibility. I trust both the government and citizens will look after the welfare of Ranaviru families, to make them feel secure with the assurance that society at large has not forgotten them.
