Puthukudiyiruppu Victory day & War heroes commemoration held

www.defence.lk/">A provincial Victory Day plus a War Hero felicitation ceremony took place at the War Hero memorial at Puthukudiyiruppu following coordination done jointly by Security Forces Headquarters, Mullaitivu, office of the Governor for Northern Province and Mullaitivu District Secretariat.
The ceremony, attended by Major General (Retd) G.A Chandrasiri, Governor for Northern Province, Member of Parliament for Jaffna Mr Chandra Kumar (MP) and the Wanni Parliamentarian Mr Unif Farook (MP), Chief Secretary for Northern Province Mr A.S Swami, Mullaitivu District Secretary Mr A. Pathinadan, Commanders from Jaffna, Mullaitivu and Wanni Security Forces Headquarters, Senior Officers of Tri-services, disable War Heroes and a large gathering of students and civilians, commenced after religious observances of all denominations. Soon after the traditional oil lamp lighting, a mammoth cultural display presented by Tamils, Sinhalese, Muslims and other minorities added colour to the occasion, highlighting the importance of co-existence, harmony, unity and peace among all ethnicities.
In a moving gesture, school children, attending the ceremony from Mullaitivu district offered lotus flowers to disable War Heroes present on the occasion and paid their tribute, symbolizing their appreciation and respect towards them. On the same occasion, token gifts were awarded to those soldiers by a section of the invitees as symbols of their gratitude.
A large gathering of civilians attended the occasion.
