War Hero month begins today
The month beginning from May 19 has been declared as the month of War Heroes, to commemorate valiant men and women who risked life and limb to save the motherland from ruthless terrorists.
H.E Mahinda Rajapaksa, President and Commander in Chief of the Armed forces inaugurated the ceremonial adornment of the first war hero flag by him at the Temple Trees today.
After the ceremonial adornment, the President officially handed over the war hero flags to all Provincial Governors who attended the ceremony to sell the flags in their respective provinces.
The funds raised from the sale of war hero flags will be utilized to support needy war hero families especially on their health, education and to uplift the living standards.
Their bravery made us a country free from terrorism since 19 May 2009, and all Sri Lankans celebrate the second year anniversary of the triumph over terrorism today.
Government Ministers, Provincial Governors, Secretary to HE the President, Secretary Defence, Chief of the Defence Staff, Service Commanders were among those who present.
