Resettlement in Vadamarachchi East begins

Resettlements in Vadamarachchi east begun recently facilitating Tamil civilians to back their native places after completely removing LTTE laid land mines, unexploded ordnance and trappings in the area.
Army Engineers and foreign agencies collectively conducted the de-mining operations in vadamarachchi east.
As the first phase of the resettlement, eighty one families at Ampan in Marathankerni divisional secretariat were resettled on 30th August and a function was held at Kudaththanai government school under the patronage of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe.
Tin roofing sheets and Cement needed for renovating their houses were distributed among the resettled families during this event. Agricultural equipments were also distributed among 40 farming families as a measure to strength their livelihood.
Meanwhile, 52 Division distributed school items among 34 children of those families resettled.
Brigadier General Staff SF-J Brigadier B.C.J.A.F. Rodrigo, General Officer Commanding 52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe, Commander 521 Brigade Lieutenant Colonel Tikiri Dissanayake, Divisional Secretary Marathankerni Mr. Sri Skandha Kumar, Zonal Director of Education Point Pedro Mr. Nanda Kumar, senior Army officers and many people in the area were present on the occasion.
