Leave no room for re-emergence of terrorism
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said all countrymen have a
responsibility to ensure no room is left for the re-emergence of terrorism which
brought suffering to the people of all communities for over three decades.
He said that he was well aware of the misery faced by the people
due to terrorism and insisted that they all should keep in mind that the country
has only one government.
Speaking at the Jaffna District Special Development Committee
meeting at Tilco City Hotel in Jaffna yesterday, President Rajapaksa said that
the Northern railway line which was devastated by the terrorists would be
reconstructed up to Kankesanthurai and the construction will be completed by
March next year.
President Rajapaksa reviewed the development activities taking
place in the Jaffna district and the officials were directed to complete the
work of the on going projects.
It was revealed at the development committee meeting that the
reconstruction of the A 9 highway was being carried out rapidly and the entire
Jaffna district has seen massive development in the social, health, power and
energy, agriculture sectors with the end to the 30 years conflict.
Speaking in Tamil, the President said that he is more happy when
the people are content. The President was of the view that the government
servants should discharge an efficient service to the public. President
Rajapaksa stressed the importance of developing the rural villages in the
district.
He opined that the dividends of development should reach the
under priviledged areas in the district too.
The development of Jaffna should not be centred on the city of
Jaffna. The development should be brought to the rural areas of the district
too, he said.
Ministers Basil Rajapaksa, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Pavithra
Wanniarachchi, Tissa Karaliyadda, Northern Province Governor G. A. Chandrasiri,
TNA Parliamentarian A Vinayagamoorthi and local government members representing
