Sampur's displaced to be resettled

The people who had been displaced from Sampur will be resettled soon. Seven locations have been identified to relocate them, Trincomalee District Secretariat sources said.

As the four Grama Niladari Divisions in Sampur are to be declared as economic zones, the displaced people are to be resettled in those areas. Families numbering 1,086, consisting of 3,464 persons, are yet to be resettled, according to sources.

Plans are afoot to resettle the people in the Mutur Divisional Secretariat, the sources said.

When the Security Forces launched humanitarian operations against the LTTE in Mavil Aru in 2006 38,474 families comprising 138,664 persons were displaced from the Trincomalee district, the sources said. Over 17,330 families numbering 65,170 persons were displaced from the Mutur Divisional Secretariat Division alone. Only 1,086 families are yet to be resettled, the sources said.
