Navy gifts photo copy machine to Delft students


The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage gifted a photo copy machine to the Roman Catholic Ladies College in Delft islet recently.

The arrangement was made during his recent visit to the Northern Naval Command. With the wake of the educational revival in the Northern Province that began with the end of war, Sri Lanka security forces have actively involved in assisting the Northern schools and the children in a number of ways. The need for a photocopy machine has been a long felt requirement of the school. The principal, staff and the students highly praised the measure taken by the Navy Commander in assisting their school.

The students also got the opportunity to speak to the Navy Commander during the event.


Navy rescues drifting fishing vessel


Sri Lanka Naval Ship Suranimala of the Northern Naval Command rescued a fishing vessel drifting in the sea 34 nautical miles off Point Pedro yesterday (14th February).

The vessel which lost course due to an engine failure and was drifting away at sea was safely towed towards Point Pedro along with the crew by the Navy. Acting in quick response to information receive from the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources the Navy's ship rushed to the rescue of the vessel in distress. On reaching the shore the crew of the fishing vessel were sent for further medical care.
