Several Eastern roads completing reconstruction
Several Eastern road systems are completing reconstruction according to the Ministry of Highways.
On the directive of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, A-15 road from Batticaloa to Trincomalee, A-5 road leading to Peradeniya through Chenkal-adi Maha-oya, Padiyathalava, and Nuwara Eliya, A-11 road leading to Maradankadawala through Thrikondiyamadu, Manampitiya, Polonnaruwa and Habarana, A-4 road from Batticaloa to Colombo are being re-constructed. These are the main roads which connect Batticaloa with other districts in the country.
The bridges along these roads are also being re-constructed under this programme. New bridges are constructed to replace some bridges which were totally destroyed during the battle against terrorists.
Accordingly, bridges are being constructed in Kayankeni, Verugal, Ralkuli, Gangei and Upparu, at a cost of Rs.3110 million. In addition, a new bridge costing Rs.830 million is being constructed to replace the old Kalladi Bridge.
