Further assistance from Germany for IDPs

Germany has granted Euro 135,000 to support ongoing emergency assistance project accommodated at Menik Farm, Vavuniya implemented by Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB.). A spokesperson for the embassy told The Island that this would bring relief to IDPs still at Menik Farm.
She quoted the German Ambassador Jens Ploetner as saying Germany was concerned about those unable to return to their villages over one year after the conclusion of the war in May last year.
The project launched on August 1st, 2010 with funds provided by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will provide hygienic kits, toilet cleaning kits, material and labour necessary for the repair of shelters and toilets.
Additionally, the funds will ensure that ASB continues to provide water for a large number of people. The spokesperson said that ASB had been providing over 120,000 litres of water per day to about 12,000 IDPs throughout.
Over 28,000 IDPs in Menik Farm will benefit from this Emergency Assistance Project.
