Resettlement at final stage
The resettlement program has come to its last phase and still the Government is trying to assist the resettled in the North and East, Resettlement Ministry Secretary M.B. Disanayaka told the Daily News yesterday.
The Ministry had held talks with the donor forum to bring more facilities to the resettled people in their native places. The donor forum comprises the USA, U.K, Canada and Netherlands, he said. The Indian Government is building 50,000 houses and the Chinese Government 20,000 in the first phase for the resettled people on a concessionary loan scheme, the Secretary added.
He said the Government's effort to resettle the IDPs was carried out methodically after clearing the land mines and explosives and rest will be also resettled as soon as the mine clearing reports were received.
The Ministry will provide facilities to the resettlers.
All the line Ministries are active in the Northern and Eastern areas and the resettlers are receiving better facilities in all sectors including health, agriculture and education, he noted.
