Indians to continue demining

India yesterday pledged to continue demining assistance to Sri Lanka.
High Commissioner Ashok K Kantha in a letter addressed to Economic Development Ministry Secretary Dr P B Jayasundera informed him that the Indian Government had agreed to extend the terms of seven Indian demining agencies from the Horizon and Sarvatra organizations, who have been working in Sri Lanka for several years.
The extension of the contracts of these organizations, valued at Rs 410 million is for another year.
It is expected that in addition to contributing to IDP resettlement, these teams will also be deployed for the demining work required for the reconstruction of the northern railway network.
High Commissioner Kantha also reiterated the continued commitment of the Indian Government to assist Sri Lanka in the task of reconstruction and rehabilitation in northern Sri Lanka.
