Sri Lanka is the only country that defeated terrorism on its own

Sri Lanka today claimed that it was the only country in the world that defeated terrorism on its own without the presence of foreign military or intervention of other countries.
Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa Answering to questions about the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission the Minister said that the President has appointed this Commission with a view to get opinion on actions that need to be taken to strengthen peace and harmony in the country and to prevent Sri Lanka becoming a conflict ridden nation once again, and confirmed that valid suggestions would be implemented.
He said that Sri Lanka is the only and the first country that defeated terrorism on its own after suffering under the brutality of terrorism for over thirty years. After defeating terrorism the government has fulfilled its obligations and has taken a great responsibility to create the environment for the people to live in peace and harmony. We have established our sovereignty, and established the freedom under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa for everyone to live as a one nation. We have almost completed the resettlement of over 260000 IDPs. "There are forces and groups at national as well as international level to suppress this reality" Mr Yapa said.
On the Report by U.S. Ambassador Rapp about Sri Lanka the Minister said that the position of the government has been clearly stated. The Sri Lanka Government has set a vigorous goal of rebuilding the nation to move forward into a new era of peace and prosperity. The Government of Sri Lanka acknowledges that the lessons which may be drawn from the past could contribute to true reconciliation, and is committed to a rapid process to achieve this.
