Jun 12, Colombo: Indian officials have said that they suspect pro-LTTE elements to be responsible for Saturday's bomb blast on rail tracks in Tamil Nadu, Indian media reported.
Chennai-bound Passengers of the Tiruchirapalli-Chennai Rockfort Express narrowly escaped a bomb blast early Saturday morning on the rail tracks at Perani railway station in Villupuram district in South India.
No one has claimed responsibility yet but authorities believe pro-LTTE elements were behind the explosion.
The India police had reportedly said that leaflets condemning the visit of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the country between the 8th and 11th, were found from the spot.
The blast has damaged three feet of track and caused a four-foot crater according to the police officials.
Acting on a waning he received, the driver of the train has stopped the train just 200 feet before the blast site saving hundreds of lives.
Indian media reported that the Indian authorities have taken steps to either stop or divert trains traveling in to Chennai from other parts and have launched a manhunt for the culprits.
