Pro LTTE activists violate fundamental rights: Swamy
06 Jun 2010, CHENNAI: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy urged the State government to take action against the Tamil film industry activists, who sought a boycott of the International Indian Film Academy festival being held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
He told reporters on Saturday that the activists, who have pro-LTTE leanings, were violating the fundamental rights guarantied by the Constitution by asking their counterparts in other states to boycott the IIFA.
Swamy, who condemned the boycott call, said the government should use the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act to take action against them. "If Karunanidhi fails to take action, then the Center should dismiss the DMK government," he added.
When asked about P Chidambaram’s comment that he has only limited mandate in the fight against Maoists, Swamy said, as Home Minister, he should uphold the Constitution, which has given him all mandate. "If he does not use it, then it’s a violation of the oath he has taken when becoming a minister." Swamy also said that he will file a case in a court in London against the British museum to recover two Saraswati idols stolen by the British over 100 years ago from a temple in Dhar in Madhya Pradesh.(Indian Express)
