Jun 25, Colombo: A Tamil Tiger intelligence cadre posing as a beggar has been arrested by police in the Southern Province town of Matara, Sri Lanka media reported.
Matara police conducted a raid in cooperation with the state intelligence service and arrested the ethnic Tamil, Eswaran Chandrakumaran, 35, a former fighter who had an amputated leg. The suspect, a resident of Vavuniya in Northern Province, has been a fighter of the Charles Anthony Brigade of the LTTE.
Police suspects the LTTE cadre was on a mission of gathering information regarding movements of the VIPs including the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and others. Further interrogations are carried out by the officials of the state intelligence unit.
Police arrested another LTTE cadre from Matara several days ago, media reported.
