Mine Clearance at Wadamarachchi East Accelerated
www.defence.lk">Heavily-mined LTTE Forward Defence Line (FDL) at Wadamarachchi east are being fenced by the troops of the Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) Regiment deployed under 55 Division denying access for civilians re-settled in adjacent villages to ensure the safety of those civilians.
Engineer troops laid barbed wire along the FDLs for the safety of wanderers and would soon commence removing land mines and Unexploded Ordnance heavily buried by the LTTE terrorists during their presence in these areas.
Army Engineers and some foreign de-mining groups are involved in the de-mining project and re-settlement will take place as soon as the land is declared mine free by de-mining agencies.
